Behind the Scenes

No matter the medium, artists all begin with a “concept”. In their minds, the concept is rough, but workable. It just takes time to come together. Kinetic art adds the element that the work of art needs to not only look balanced, but it must actually be balanced with each revolution. That is where trial and error, multiple tweaks and a couple of re-designs come into play. The bottom line is that many times, if it doesn’t balance on the first attempt, it becomes trash with no chance to salvage. Most kinetic artists work only in one medium, like sheet metal or aluminum. But other materials hold my interest also. I like to laser wood designs, or use the waterjet to cut shapes in glass and fuse them together. I utilize the CO2 laser to cut acrylic material and the CNC plasma cutter to cut designs out of metal. Here are some photos of my work in the shop. Questions? Feel free to let what is on your mind.
